A Childhood in the Public Eye

Lily Max Cohen grew up as the daughter of two well-known journalists. Her father, Richard Cohen, was a respected journalist whose weekly column in the Washington Post was widely read, and her mother, Meredith Vieira, was a household name on television, including on “The View” and “Today.” Vieira had stepped back from “60 Minutes” in 1991 to raise her family, a decision that shaped the more private home life in which Lily and her brothers were raised.

Having famous parents meant that public attention was part of family life from an early age. Privacy was something Lily and her brothers, Benjamin and Gabriel, learned to value.

Education: Building a Foundation

Despite the unique circumstances of her upbringing, Lily’s parents made sure she had as normal a childhood as possible. When it came time for college, Lily enrolled at Northwestern University.

Northwestern’s School of Communication was a fitting choice for a young woman who had grown up surrounded by media. In 2015, Lily graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.

Spreading Her Wings to Santa Monica

With her degree in hand, Lily moved west to Santa Monica, California, rather than staying in the familiar East Coast media world. The move marked a step toward building her own career in digital media.

Climbing the Ladder at Tastemade

Lily’s first job out of college was reported to be with Tastemade, a digital media company focused on food, travel, and lifestyle content. She was reported to have started as a content production assistant, before moving to associate editor, and later to business development and partnerships. Her current role is not publicly confirmed.

Navigating the Public Eye

Growing up with famous parents, Lily learned early on how to handle public attention. She made a few carefully chosen appearances in the media, most notably on her mother’s talk show, “The Meredith Vieira Show.” Unlike some children of famous parents, Lily did not use these opportunities as a springboard to launch an on-camera career. Instead, she has chosen to maintain a low-key public presence and keeps a low public profile.

Family Ties

Lily has managed to forge her own path while maintaining strong ties to her family. Her brothers are Benjamin and Gabriel. Her father was a respected voice in journalism for decades, despite living with multiple sclerosis since his 20s, and her mother broke barriers in broadcast journalism, including her work on “60 Minutes” and as the first host of the American version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”

Personal Relationships in the Public Eye

One aspect of Lily’s life that remains largely private is her relationships. She has managed to keep this part of her life out of the spotlight.

Lily Max Cohen has kept a much lower public profile than her parents while pursuing her own work in digital media, separate from but influenced by her famous family.
