Heaton’s own account

Heaton has discussed the marriage in her 2002 memoir, Motherhood and Hollywood, and, as reported second-hand, she told A&E’s Biography in 2003 that she met Yankoglu in a drama class, that the marriage was impulsive, and that there was no compatibility between them. In Heaton’s account, the marriage lasted three years and she felt like a huge failure as someone from a Catholic family. She also described a period after the separation as a Protestant wilderness. These are Heaton’s words and perspective, attributed to her, not neutral facts about Yankoglu.

Divorce and annulment are different events

The 1987 civil divorce ended the legal marriage. The reported June 2017 Catholic annulment was a separate, later event: a religious declaration that the marriage was null under Church law, which allowed Heaton to return fully to the sacraments.
